Who Is Helbert?
Born in Bogotá, Colombia, I discovered my love for art at age six during my first art competition. When my family moved to New York City, I was immersed in a world of museums and a rich tapestry of artistic expression that fueled my passion throughout high school. Life took unexpected turns, and after joining the military and serving in combat, the burning light I once had for art began to fade. My dream of using my talents to build a career dimmed along with it.
In my adult years, I dedicated myself to serving the public through various nonprofit roles. Now, after recently retiring due to medical reasons, I’ve reignited my passion for the arts. Creating has become a powerful tool for improving my health, and I’m excited to explore art as a second career. Today, I pursue my love for art by studying its fundamentals and crafting works I’m proud of. As a senior at SCAD, I’m thrilled to share this journey and my passion for art through the work presented in my portfolio.
